Useful information about the Edinburgh Venue

For students who are travelling from abroad/throughout the UK, please note that the Gillis Centre offers bed and breakfast facilities - with a 3 star rating from the Scottish Tourist Board. Please contact them direct to check availability.

The Gilles Centre has beautiful facilities - it was once a convent and a school. It has gardens to sit in on a sunny day with apple trees and beautiful flowers. Locally there are cafes nearby to enjoy lunch too. Gillis Centre

By car

If you are travelling to the Gillis Centre by car - use Google Maps website to get directions. Simply type in your postcode, then use the postcode for the Gillis Centre 'EH9 1BB' and you'll get directions regardless of which route you are travelling.

There is a car park at the centre with plenty of spaces. If it is busy you can park on the street for free after 5.30pm Monday to Friday or all day/night at weekends. Metered parking is available outwith those times.

By Bus

The bus route which goes right past the venue is No. 5. Or you can take a 24, 24a or 41 to the Marchmont area and it is approx a 10 minute walk from there.

By Bicycle!

By Train

There are 2 main train stations in Edinburgh - Haymarket and Waverely. If you are travelling to the Gilles Centre, you are best to travel into Waverly and either bus/taxi to the venue. A taxi will cost approximately Ł10.

By Plane

Edinburgh is a popular destination for visiting and weekend travel. Edinburgh Airport is about 8 miles (12 km) west of the centre. You can travel by bus to the city centre. Or by Taxi from the airport to the venue.

General Useful Information

Edinburgh is a beautiful city and attacts millions of visitors a year. One way to easily orientate yourself if walking/travelling is to realise that Edinburgh Castle sits directly in the city centre. It's the first thing you will see when you leave the train station.

Edinburgh has many festivals and a huge tourist industry so it's a good idea to book early for accomodation. Check out the travel situation too as we are currently experiencing a lot of roadworks due to a new tram system that is being built.
