What is the Solar Plexus Chakra

This is an energy centre based in the centre of your body just below the rib cage which is your source of 'personal power'. (If you're unsure what chakras are - look at section on the website entitled 'chakras').

chakras

All the energy centres (chakras) are important and work together. However the solar plexus can become influenced by negative people or a negative environment or your own negative thoughts and emotions. It connects with this part of our body - our digestive organs and when we feel nervous or anxious, we can feel the sensation of 'butterflies' in this area.

When a chakra is balanced, it has a smooth frequency and the colour is a beautiful golden yellow and it's open to the correct size within the body.

If it is unbalanced (either over or under active), the energy may find it difficult to flow through this chakra as it is weak or too dominant. Some of the signals of a weak chakra are...

  • blaming others,
  • lack of self esteem
  • feeling depressed
  • lacking motivation

Some of the signs of a chakra that is too strong are...

  • judgmental
  • workaholic/competitive
  • need drugs to relax (eg alcohol, tobacco )
  • trying to be a perfectionist
  • can't sit still

This is a chakra that comes into focus if trying to start a new (and healthier regime). If we don't have high self esteem and don't value ourselves - then why will we stick at a regime that we know is good for us? All we'll do is start the new habits, stop them after a while and then feel guilty or bad about ourselves. Sound familiar?

Cleansing and balancing the Solar Plexus chakra

Using visualisation techniques can have a profound physical and mental/emotional effect. Try to do this exercise at least once a day (and if you forget - don't worry... just practice when you can).

  • Sit in a comfortable chair (not too comfy as we don't want you to fall asleep!)
  • Back straight, feet on the floor, hands resting on your lap or by your side.
  • Close your eyes and start to focus on your breath - your mind will wander but just keep coming back to your breath. Take your attention to the tip of your nose if this helps you to focus.
  • Using your imagination... start to visualise (or if you can't 'see' try to 'feel') that there is a ball of white light just outside your solar plexus chakra.
  • Each time you breath, just start to imagine the light being drawn into your this chakra.
  • With every breath imagine the light become stronger and helping to clear and balance this energy centre and all your digestive organs.
  • Do this for 10 breaths then gently open your eyes, wiggle your toes and let your breath return to normal.
Do this daily if possible and particularly if you've been around negative people!

When the chakra starts to clear, you may sense a physical reaction to it. Don't worry, Just focus on your breath and when you feel ready to work and focus on the white light again, do so.

By balancing your solar plexus chakra you are helping to reduce the energy if overactive, or boost it if it's underactive.
