Boosting your Immune System for 'Flu Season'

The weather is changing and this brings the potential for colds and the flu virus to bring us down. But there are some simple steps we can take to avoid or reduce its impact:

Drink More Water - Water helps to flush any toxins out of our system so we help it immensely by drinking pure water - at least 6 glasses a day. Reducing our intake of caffeine in tea and coffee will help but if you can't give caffeine the kick - try to drink at least a glass of water between each cup of tea/coffee.

Watch your Stress Levels - There is much research into the impact of stress on our health, but researches do indicate their is a link between how stressed you are and your susceptibility to colds and viruses. Try to give our self some 'me time' doing things which you find relaxing and soothing - from walking, reading a good book, enjoying a bath or meditation will all help to keep stress in check..

Exercise - The winter systems tend to make us more sluggish and a lack of exercise can impact on our lymphatic system (which carries the cells that help fight off infection). Indoor sports like swimming/badminton/yoga or outdoor activities like cycling or walking can all help if you do this 2 - 3 times a week.

Get some Air - Air conditioning systems in offices are notorious for spreading germs, so try to reduce your chances of the cold or flu by getting fresh air during the day. You could try taking some aromatherapy oils into the office either using a diffuser or having a drop on a hankie. Lavender can be very effective as it is said to be a good air antiseptic. (Please check with an aromatherapist before using aromatherapy oils).

Treatments - Monthly therapy treatments can be an effective way to keep your immune system robust during the winter months. Indian Head Massage is particularly effective at helping the body to get rid of toxins, so even if a cold is on it's way - it can help it to shift through your system more quickly than letting it drag on for weeks.

Slow Down - We often get lots of hints from our body that it isn't coping with the workload or stress - our energy levels change or our sleep gets worse with a few aches and pains. If you start to notice any signs of being unwell, just slow down and give yourself a rest! It gives your body a chance to restore balance physically and mentally.
