Energy Spring Clean – top tips

So the nights are lighter and becoming longer and we look forward to summer as the flowers and plants start to remind us that spring is here. But perhaps the heaviness of winter still hangs over us. Following some of these top tips can help clean out your energy.

Drink More Water - It's an old tip, but always the same....water helps to flush any toxins out of our system. We help our body and energy immensely by drinking pure water (bottled or filtered is best) - at least 6 glasses a day. It can help relieve certain headaches and improve energy levels too. Many people on my meditation courses comment on how thirsty they are after meditation. This is because that our increased awareness has made us aware of how dehydrated we are! Think of a flower or plant that is starved of water and how it quickly responds when it's given water to drink.

Breathing - Often the breath is taken for granted but on a technical level, it's job is to increase the supply of oxygen to our blood cells and help remove toxins. Learning how to gradually increase your breath intake (many of us restrict or hold or breath when anxious) can be a useful starting point. Just notice the breath and then gradually try to increase it to a comfortable and deeper level - several times a day is good practise.

Exercise - The weather is clearer and the nights/mornings lighter so you've no excuse - give yourself the opportunity to get off the bus sooner and walk to work/home (or better still dust the bicycle and go for a cycle!)

Spring Clean the House - Often the clutter and dirt in our homes can have an effect on our energy so whilst having a spring clean doesn't seem like an 'energy' cleansing exercise - it is! Notice how you feel when you have thrown out the old magazines, clothes not worn in years and given the place a good hoover and dust. It is the cheapest way to boost your energy!

Chakra Clearing - The energy centres in our bodies can become congested with negative thoughts and feelings so it can be helpful to do some chakra clearing exercises to help release and let go. Meditation is a good way to do this, but if you can't afford a class or CD, then just simple sit down and focus on each chakra with your breath. The in breath being an energising and clearing breath and the outbreath letting go of old thoughts. Look at the Chakra section to find out more about the Chakras.

Affirmations - These are a good way to re-train your thoughts from negative to positive. At the start it can feel like you are climbing a mountain, but with perseverance you can really make some great progress. Some tutors suggest that you place the tip of your tongue on the top of your upper palate (at the back of your teeth) when mentally repeating a phrase to your self - try "I am poweful and free to choose my life" as a starter phrase!
